The Howard Theatre has been part of DC's community since 1910, and was added to the National Register of Historic places in 1974. The theatre is located on 7th and T St., NW which came to be known as "Black Broadway." While in its heyday, Howard Theatre was vibrant with live theatre, talent shows, vaudeville, and of course music. The theatre, with its original faƧade still in place, was restored to its original 1,200 seat space, maintaining an intimate vibe.
The perfect conduit to access many of the places we've already highlighted around town is by bike. In just three short days, my annual Capital Bikeshare membership is due to expire and there is no question that I will be re-subscribing to the service, even though I own my own bike!
Tired of the same old feeling coffeeshop, lounge, or bar that gives you the same chain atmosphere? If so- Tryst, with the motto- "No corporate coffee, No matching silverware." is the spot to try! Tryst has been an Adams Morgan haven since 1998, and owner Constantine Stavropoulos truly makes the usually crazy 18th Street strip a quiet and pleasant cafe during daytime hours.
Hill Country BBQ, located in Penn Quarter is Washington DC's trendy BBQ spot and it is all about Texas BBQ. Based out of New York City, Marc Glosserman, the founder and Bethesda native, brings his blend of authentic Texas-style BBQ to the District. The market's name, Hill Country, reflects the vernacular term referring to the central region of Texas known for its hills and caves. While the interior of the restaurant is bright neon and lively BBQ infused, the name evokes blues and cattle ranchers, together creating the perfect fit for a smoky meal. Walking in you get the impression of a cattle market due to the large size and because your orders are stamped on a card upon entering.
